Getting the Nest thermostat installed along with a new boiler. Any thoughts on this bit of kit?

Hey rio einstein, What are you suppose to do when temperatures can reach as high as 40c or as low as -30c?
Where I live you need to protect your house against these extremes.
Thanks for the heads up OB, I'm off to the ionized water shoppe.

some couples both work mate, and its nice to come back to a warm house rather than having to wait an hour or more. in the winter we leave the heating on low all day as i find that its more things like the floors and sofas that take time to warm up if the house is left cold all day.

If your house is well insulated, has double glazing and a decent heating system it will warm up within one hour irrespective of the outside temperature in the UK.
I can't even understand people who use timers.
I control my heating with the room stat in the hall. Before I leave for work at 6 I turn the stat up to 20, during the day the wife turns it down to 15 unless its very cold and then she turns it up to 20 for an hour or two in the evening.

There's a football forum bender? Does he get annoyed with your posting stuff on him??
The only football related post from you in the last year is about viewing your seat at Westfield, the rest seem to be weirdness about hot tubs, boilers, cats, wi-fi and zoos. You're a proper oddball, no doubts

Two hundred and fifty quid for a thermostat!!
Do you want to buy some magic beans as well?
Oh and don't use windolene on your panels - the 'experts' say you must use de-ionised water.

overbyter, for one who is involved in technology you sound so angry and bitter over a simple wifi thermostat.
The world's is always changing OB, don't get left behind.
Now where's my bottle of windolene? Gotta clean them panels.

I've been in technical asset management and electrical engineering long enough to know a ' I saw you coming' gadget for geeks.

Piston - I wasn't talking about you specifically, but seeing as you launched into a diatribe of 'ever changing schedules' then the cap obviously fits.

overbyyer 7:11 Mon Oct 5 What a strange thing to say, you would actually boast about your thermostat if you had one?. And as it happens, monkey bollocks, I have never been to Benidorm.
Those who live in an ever changing schedule appreciate the ability to turn heat/cool up or down when an event changes your daily routine. A timer just doesn't work as it can turn stuff on when you are not there and stuff off when you are! It's a pretty simple fucking concept.
*Shakes head in wonder*

I've had Hive installed at a holiday property I own, which can be empty some of the time during the Winter...being able to check the heating isn't knackered is very handy, a burst pipe would be far more expensive than installing Hive

I suppose it's a good idea if you're travelling home and fancy a warm house to enter.
You could of course use a TIMER

Yes, it will really impress the people you are with - being able to adjust the thermostat in an empty fucking house because whilst you are sat in Benidorm.

You are correct IOC. Initially invented and developed by an ex Apple guy, the Home/Nest company was eventually bought by Google for over 3 billion dollars..
A very good reason to buy the other, more affordable models on the market.

Was Nest spun off from Alphabet like a lot the other Google stuff?
If not and even possibly if so, Nest is not just another thermostat, if you are worried about your privacy.

Well done, now you have an easy earner for your energy supplier.
The foreign cunts will hack it and ramp up your heating to 30 deg in the middle of the day while you are out and delete any log files/history.
MUSLIM energy companies!!! Its a utility jihad.

The nest looks good but is pricey, there are cheaper ones on the market.
